Beard growing, baked beans and birthdays

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket marked “events”.  JustGiving does much more than help raise money for organised charity runs, swims and cycles, and so do your supporters.

Fundraisers who ask for charity donations instead of wedding gifts raised an average of £918 (including Gift Aid) last year, compared to an average of £326 on fundraising pages for running events.

Birthday pages attract average donations of £595, and pages created in memory of a loved one raise an average of £922 for a relevant cause.

Some of our biggest success stories come from creative fundraising in the community. From beard growing to bathing in baked beans, it’s often the imaginative fundraising ideas which attract more interest and more money.

Have you supports done anything a bit out of the ordinary to raise funds for your charity? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

My office did a staff Grade-1-athon, to raise money for the orchestra we work for. 9 of us in the office took up a musical instrument that was unlike anything we'd ever played before (eg. I used to be a flautist, so I took up the violin as I've never played any type of string instrument), and entered ourselves for our ABRSM Grade 1 exam on that instrument after only having had lessons for a couple of months. I received over 100 donations and raised over £1200. Between the 9 of us we raised over £10,000, and even got a small feature in Classic FM Magazine for having done it. By the way, we all passed our exams.
