We’re launching a new app that allows your supporters to easily share all of their charitable giving with their friends on their Facebook Timeline. It’s very exciting, not least because we’re one of the first brands to develop an app that uses Facebook’s latest technology.
The new app means that whenever someone donates to your charity, they will be automatically be prompted to share that donation on their Facebook timeline, encouraging all of their friends to donate too.
Sharing on Facebook is huge driver of donations. In 2011 alone, fundraisers that shared their page on Facebook brought over one million donors back to JustGiving.
Since we first launched tools in September last year that encouraged donors to share their donation on Facebook, one in ten donors have gone on to tell their friends. So far, this has generated an additional £1million in donations to charity.
By integrating with Facebook timeline, we’re predicting that figure will boost even further and with each viral Facebook share worth an average £5 in donations, it could mean a lot of extra money being donated to your charity.
The app was unveiled today by Facebook’s Christian Hernandez at The Next Web Conference in Amsterdam.
Here’s what our product manager Jonathan Waddingham had to say on the significance of Facebook for charities like yours.
“JustGiving is committed to ensuring charities have the very latest technology to help them raise as much money as possible through social media. By launching our new Timeline app, we aim to increase the number of people sharing their charitable giving online and increase the impact of those shares. We know that sharing drives donations – and by helping people to give a public display of recognition to their supporters, we predict this will help raise even more for worthy causes.”
Here’s what the app will look like on Facebook’s Timeline.
