Connect with Facebook on JustGiving

Our latest update to JustGiving, helping you raise even more, is Facebook Connect.

Now, when you make a donation on someone’s JustGiving page, you can log in to Facebook and post your donation on your Facebook wall and your friends’ newsfeeds in just a few clicks.

This means it’s faster than ever to spread the word about the causes you support. Your friends can see your donation and you can inspire them to donate too – so you’ll be able to give your friends and family a big boost towards reaching their fundraising target.

Here’s how it works

After you’ve made your donation on JustGiving, you’re given the option of sharing your donation with your Facebook friends.

Then, once you’ve logged in to Facebook, you’ll see the option to post a little note on your wall and in your friends’ newsfeeds, letting them know that you’ve made a donation on your friend’s page and the charity you’ve supported.

If you like, you can add your own message to go with the post – to tell other people to support your friend, or just to repeat the supportive (or funny) message you left on their fundraising page. The image from the JustGiving page will show automatically, helping your friends to recognise the person fundraising.

Here’s how your post looks on Facebook

Around 30% of visitors to JustGiving come from Facebook – it’s one of the best places to spread the word about your fundraising and encourage those much-needed donations. Our Facebook application is already used by over 400,000 people – and now the extra ability to share your donation with Facebook Connect means even more people will be able to use the world’s most popular social network to help fundraisers and charities increase awareness and raise more money.

Shaun & Doug Marshall Jr are running the Snowdonia Marathon on 24th Oct, the hardest marathon in Britain. We’re running it for 2 charities Cancer Research & Sands, for stillbirth and neonatal deaths. Throughout our lifetime we will all probably be affected by these tragedies You can either sponsor us on paper or go to the Justgiving website or on my profile page. Any donation is appreciated.

We are currently on our arses and sick of running, we have three weeks to go, but you generosity will spur us on.

    Thanks, Shaun and Doug.

I am trying to add the JG Facebook app to a charity page on Facebook.

It doesn’t appear to connect with the page correctly but just with my profile.

Any idea how to rectify this issue?

    Thanks

    Hi Eoin,

Unfortunately you cannot add the JustGiving Facebook application to fan pages, like a charity page, but only to your profile page. We are however in the middle of looking into how we can improve our facebook offerings and I will bring this up as a suggestion for development.

I have also sent you this information in a separate email. If you have any questions please get back in touch.

    Thanks
    Heather

I’m considering starting up a Facebook page/group for the Charity I work for. Would it be better to set it up as a Group or a Page? Also, if I set it up as a group, can I add the JustGiving Facebook application?

    Thanks

    Hi Mandy,

It is generally accepted to be better to create a fan page, as you can do a lot more with fan pages than you can with groups. For more info on what you can do, read this great post at Mashable showing some US non profits using fan pages – http://mashable.com/2009/06/25/facebook-cause-pages

As in the other comments above, our app can only be used on individual profiles at the moment, so it won’t work on a group or fan page unfortunately. But as Heather said, we’re looking at more ways of improving what we provide for Facebook users like yourself (and all of us in the office!).

    I hope this helps.
