Last month, we launched our JustTextGiving video competition asking you to send us a video of innovative and fun ways to fundraise with your JustTextGiving code. The video with the most views by Tuesday 23rdAugust gets a whopping £500 donation to their page! Plus, two runners up (who will be decided by a panel of judges) will each get a £200 donation.
We’ve got a few fantastic video entries so far, featuring bald men, a fundraising parakeet, a rubber duckling saga, and a massive sweet jar. But today we wanted to share with you a rather special video entry from serial fundraiser Simon Painter: the “arse/elbow challenge”.
We caught up with Simon to find out how he came up with his idea – a questionable but hilarious fundraising game on YouTube!
Check out his entry below. If you like his video, pass it on to your friends and family and improve Simon’s chances of getting a £500 donation to his fundraising page for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.
My name is Simon Painter and I am Senior Systems Engineer at BlueArc. I also created an online community of fundraising volunteers call the Ragabonds who have raised around £450,000 since we started in 2005.
With all things social, the key is content. I wanted the ‘cheeky’ element to draw people in to watching the video but also thought a game element might encourage people to share it. I wanted to do something for @weldmar because they helped care for my grandpa a couple of years ago before he died.
It took me about 10 minutes to make the video while I was getting changed out of my cycling gear. I just turned on the camera and kept trying to get it right until I was happy. I then spent another 10 mins or so using windows movie maker to cut it down.
I’ve used Twitter and Facebook predominantly to share the video, but also various forums that I frequent.
The competition is practically free money for your cause; obviously I don’t want to encourage too many people to enter in case they beat me! Have fun, be creative and think about the sorts of videos you share with friends because that’s the sort of thing others will want to share.
Why not inject some FUN into your FUNdraising? Grab a camera and have some fun with your text code! Can you think of a great way to promote your text code?
The competition is open until Tuesday 23rd August. Click here to find out exactly how to enter.
