Sky-high fundraiser makes new world record

On Tuesday, John Carver flew into the record books for being the first person to travel the length of the UK by flying bike.

John, a teacher from Oxford, started up his flying bike (aka ‘Flyke’) at Lands End on 1st August, and after an eleven day journey touched down at John O’Groats last Tuesday. He covered 890 miles with 95% of the trip being covered by air and the remaining 5% by cycling.

In completing this impressive challenge, John not only set a new world record for undertaking the longest recorded journey by Flyke, but also raised a staggering £10,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. John himself is a diabetes sufferer and had to cope with this on the journey as well as punctures, constant refuelling at petrol stations along the route and making sure he didn’t cross flight paths with any other incoming air traffic!

To read more about this incredible challenge you can visit John’s website here, see a map documenting his journey here, and see his JustGiving page here.
