The JG team: Supporting charities out-of-hours

Supporting charities isn’t just a day job for many of us at JustGiving. We tackle bike rides, treks, inflatable assault courses, cross-continent drives and, if all that isn’t hardcore enough, abstain from cheese-eating. Like the amazing JustGiving community, we fundraise for charities and offer our support to those causes that are close to our hearts.

Account manager Liz is the latest to support a good cause. She is a member of the London group of the British Stammering Association, and helped at the charity’s open day last weekend. Here she tells us about her involvement:

On Saturday I went along to the British Stammering Association’s open day in Bethnal Green, London.

The BSA provides support and information for people who stammer, and for their friends and family. It’s a small charity which has formed an incredibly supportive network. Stammering can really affect people’s lives, where simple daily tasks can be dreaded or avoided. We want to raise awareness and help support anyone who finds it difficult to communicate.

The open day was a chance for people to meet and discuss their problems, get some advice from a number of workshops and to generally have a great time meeting new people.

We were lucky enough to get an opening speech from Ed Balls, the new patron of the BSA. He managed to answer a few questions too before dashing off to be live on the BBC. His speech can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/stammeringbsa

There are many local BSA groups dotted around the country, which meet once or twice a month, to help connect people, give them more confidence, spread advice and gain new friends. I’m part of the London group – if you’d like more information about what we get up to follow this link.

If you would like to find out more or support the BSA, please take a look at its website, create a JustGiving page for an event you are doing or check out the great Facebook page for more information.
